You will be required to write at least one blog post AND comment on at least two peers’ posts for this first assignment. Here are the requirements:
- Create your blog post by 8 pm the night it is due.
- Comment on 2 peers' posts by 8 pm the night it is due.
- Blog posts must be a minimum of 400 words in length and must contain at least one textual reference with MLA in-text or parenthetical citation.
- Comments must be a minimum of 200 words in length and must reference and challenge or expand upon something the writer mentions in his/her post. You must be the first or second person to comment to receive credit.
- Writers who receive comments on their posts must respond to those comments.
- Focus on one or more of the following in your blog posts:
- Insights or confusions stemming from reading questions (do NOT merely summarize the reading or answer the reading questions in your post)
- Revelations, questions, arguments about one or more characters and their role in/importance to the story (again, do NOT merely summarize what the characters do)
- Analysis of the impact of the literary analysis elements on the story (remember, NO SUMMARY!)
- Analysis of one or more of the driving forces and its impact on the story
- Connections between what's happening in the story and other stories/historical events/current events
- Analysis of other story elements or issues not mentioned here
And in case you've forgotten, NO SUMMARY. We're looking for evidence of careful analysis and deep thinking about the text and its elements.
Format blog posts like this:
- Use Web-friendly writing
- Short paragraphs
- Integration of media (images, video, hyperlinks). Images MUST be copyright labeled for reuse and MUST BE CREDITED IN THE CAPTION. Search for images through creativecommons.org.
- HYPERLINKS AND OUTSIDE MEDIA (LABLED FOR REUSE, OF COURSE) HIGHLY ENCOURAGED!
- Provide readers with questions/challenges at the end of posts to get them thinking about your content and to encourage them to comment
These posts and/or comments will be graded on occasion. Not every post or comment will be graded, but you should definitely complete each assignment. You never know when we might decide to grade your class’s work.
